Gates to open for one year
The Nation December 12, 2001
The Cabinet yesterday agreed to the Prime Minister's Office proposal of
increasing the period that the Pak Mun Dam sluice gates will remain open to
one year.
Nahathai Tiewphaingam, deputy government spokesman, said after the Cabinet
meeting the extension would enable the government's working group to
complete research into the impact.
The Cabinet in April ordered the Electricity Generation Authority of
Thailand to open all eight of the dam's gates for four months from May to
September. However, villagers affected by the dam argued four months would
not give the government long enough to study the changes in the river. |
