New
hydro-power station unit operational in China's Yunnan Province

The
No 5 generating unit with a capacity of 225,000 kW has gone into operation
Thursday [12 June] at the Dachaoshan hydroelectric power station in Yunnan
Province, southwest China.
Located
in western Yunnan on the Mekong River, the Dachaoshan hydroelectric power
station constitutes one of western China's key construction projects.
The
project, which has a pricetag of 8.87bn yuan (over 1.06bn US dollars),
will include six generating units of this type. The first unit started
operating on 26 December 2001, and all five units are now operational.
The
additional unit will help enhance the province's ability to provide more
electricity for the region as well as for the developed eastern China.
