Rapids-shoals-Reefs
in the Mekong River; The
joint survey team reported that it is dangerous and hindering safe navigation
of big vessels and it should be regulated ( blasted out!!) as
soon as possible. Villagers said that the areas have their own specific
characters of fertiled ecosystem consisting of complex sub-ecosystems
called in local Thai "Khang,
Paa, Don, Had, Kog, and Long" which are rapids, reefs,
sand dunes. These are habitats and spawning areas for fish, and
also fishing grounds and food resources for villagers. Blasting
off these rapids, in another word, is threatening to food security of
people along the Mekong River.
